World’s Oldest Locomotive: Fairy Queen Train

World’s oldest working steam engines, the Fairy Queen made its maiden journey in
the year 1855 for the previous East Indian Railway. The train embraces the Guinness
World Record for being the oldest locomotive in regular operation. Earlier, the
train used to travel between Howrah to Raniganj line and later came in Bihar in
1908. And finally in July 1997, the Indian Railway restarted its journey as a heritage
train from Delhi to Alwar. During the journey, the Fairy Queen passes through the
world famous Sariksa Wildlife Sanctuary.
Generally, the Fairy Queen plies on the 2nd and the 4th Saturday between the months
of October and March. Having only one AC coach, the train has capacity to carry
up to fifty passengers at a time. There is a pantry car to serve the passengers

An overview of the journey:
Indian tourism department has tried its level best to satisfy people who travel
through the Fairy Queen train. After departing from Delhi, the first stop is the
picturesque town of Alwar in Rajasthan. After leaving Alwar, the travelers are taken
to the Sariska Tiger Reserve for an overnight stay. Accommodation arrangements are
done at the Heritage hotel Sariska Palace and for entertainment there are traditional
cultural programs.
