Freedom Fighters


‘Free India’ was a dream of all Indians under the British rule. Today as we freely move around in our country without anyone questioning or imposing any kinds of restrictions on us we feel satisfied and contended. But this satisfaction is due to the efforts taken by our freedom fighters to free our country from the British rule. Its because of our freedom fighters that today we are enjoying are freedom.

The pioneers of the freedom movement were Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, Mangal Pandey, Tantia Tope, Khudiram Bose and the great Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi who introduced non-violent ways of fighting the enemy. Other notable freedom fighters of India are Annie Besant, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Bipin Chandra Pal, Sukhdev, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sarojini Naidu, Dadabhai Naoroji, Sucheta Kriplani and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. There are endless number of men and women other than the above list who daringly fought for India’s freedom.

Vallabbhai Patel



India's Man of Steel was born on 31 October, 1857, in Gujarat. He gave up his practise in order to fight for the freedom of the country. He was sent to prision. As the Deputy Prime Minister of free India, he became the architect of the integrity of India by merging of hundreds of princely states with the Indian Union.
Mahatma Gandhi



Mahatma Gandhi was born as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on 2nd October 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He was the most popular as well as the most influential political and spiritual leaders of India. The Satyagraha movement, which led to India's independence, was founded by Mahatma Gandhi only. In India, Gandhi is known as the 'Father of the Nation' and his birthday is celebrated as a national holiday.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose



Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa. He was a fierce freedom fighter and a popular leader on the political horizon in pre-independence India. Bose was elected the President of the Indian National Congress in the year 1937 and 1939. He founded the Indian National Army and raised the slogan- "Delhi Chalo" and "Tum Mujhe Khoon Do main Tumhe Ajadi Doonga". For his anti- British remarks and activities, Bose was jailed 11 times between 1920 and 1941. He was the leader of the youth wing of the Congress Party.
Jawahar Lal Nehru



Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was one of the important people, who struggled for the freedom of India was born on November 14, 1889. He became the first prime minister of free India. He was also the author of the famous book "Discovery of India". J L Nehru was extremely fond of children and was fondly called "Chacha Nehru". It was under his leadership that India embarked on the planned pattern of economic development.
Khudiram Bose


Khudiram Bose was born on December 3, 1889 in the village Medinipur of Bengal. He was one among the youngest revolutionaries of India’s freedom struggle. He was one of those brave men who challenged the British rule in their own style. At the age of nineteen, he became a martyr, with "Vande Mataram" on his lips.
Madam Cama

Madam Cama was one of the greatest women freedom fighters of India and promoted the cause of Indian freedom movement outside India. She was the one who first unfurled India's flag at an international assembly. She discarded the life of luxury and lived an exile- to serve the motherland.
Rani Lakshmibai

Rani Laxmibai, popularly known as ‘Rani of Jhansi’ or ‘Rani Lakshmi Bai’, was born on November 19, 1835 at Poona, Maharashtra. Rani Lakshmibai was one of the leading warriors of India’s freedom struggle who laid an outstanding influence on the succeeding women freedom fighters. She was a symbol of bravery, patriotism, self respect, perseverance, generosity and resistance to British rule. Bravely fighting for India’ freedom, she died on June 18, 1858.
