| History of fashion |
| In the indigenous Indian tradition, stitched garments were not
known or used at all. The art of sewing was unknown to the early Indians, and
that it was an import from outside. Fashion in India has evolved from the
over-used angrakhas, choghas, ghaghra-cholis, achkan, sherwani and much more. |

| Types Of Fabrics |
| A variety of raw materials like silk, cotton, wool, jute etc
are used in India for creating fabrics. Most textiles are produced by twisting
fibers into yarns and then knitting or weaving them into fabrics. Because of the
wide variety of fabrics, we can only give a few main types |

| Silk - Queen of textile. |
| India is the second largest producer of silk after China and
the largest consumer of silk in the world. Silk, one of the oldest known fibre
produced by the silkworm for spinning around its cocoon. The main variety of
natural or raw silks that are available in India namely Mulberry silk, Tasar
silk, Eri silk, Muga silk and Oak Tasar silk. These are obtained from different
species of silkworms. |

| Cotton- Pearl of India |
| COTTON, cool, soft, comfortable, the principal clothing fiber
of the world. Its production is one of the major factors in world prosperity and
economic stability. Cotton "breathes". It is a natural fibre of vegetable
origin. Cotton is often blended with other fibers such as polyester, linen,
wool, to "blend" the best properties of each fiber. The traditional Indian
cotton weaving revolves around 'Khadi' and sarees such as Morangfi, Tangail
cottons and Jamdani. Fine cotton fabrics are also referred as Muslin. |

| Wool is made from the hair of various animals such as sheep,
camel and goat. It is essentially found in northern region. Wool is extremely
soft and gives a spongy feel and creates insulation for the wearer. Wool is also
dirt resistant, flame resistant, and, in many weaves, resists wear and tearing.
