The city of
Gurgaon is poised for sophisticated development on many fronts.
But in spite of its multi-faceted growth, the transportation facility has not improved
significantly. Along with the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, the Delhi-Gurgaon Metro
rail would have solved the problem to a great extent. But the delay in the metro
project implementation is the major reason for the lacuna. It is in this scenario
that DLF, the Indian real estate major, is planning to start its own metro rail
in Gurgaon to improve the connectivity to its townships and malls. The estimated
investment is Rs.375 crore and the rail will cover a stretch of about four km inside
the city of Gurgaon.
Under the projected plan, DLF will introduce its own rail as a feeder service to
Delhi-Gurgaon metro line being constructed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. This
will ensure an efficient connectivity between the city and the Delhi Metro. For
the proposed project, DLF has assigned RITES to undertake a feasibility report.
The feeder service is to be operational between Sikandpur Chowk and the proposed
Mall of India, located in Sector-24, Gurgaon. The Metro Rail by DLF will not run
through underground passage but on an elevated corridor.
