Call him a perfectionist, versatile or simply the best; Aamir Khan is Aamir
Khan.
After being in the Hindi Film industry for around two decades, the Oscar nominated
producer of Lagaan is rumoured to be eyeing Hollywood.
Hollywood or India, Aamir Khan is one of the best things to have happened to
films. hotgurgaon.com raises a toast to the actor who turns 39 on March 14.
Aamir Khan, the son of Tahir Husain, has been a producer, actor, director and
writer in Bollywood. At age 23, Aamir Khan shot to fame in 1988, with Mansoor Khan’s
blockbuster film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Born on 14 March 1965, he was a child
artist in Yaadon Ki Baaraat in 1973. He is a nephew of late Nasir Husain, a well-known
director, producer and a writer. Mansoor
Khan, an actor and husband of
Zeenat Aman, is Aamir’s cousin.
5′ 5″ tall, Aamir, is a versatile actor who works for passion more than money.
Aamir chooses his roles well. Consequently, you do not see him in too many movies.
He does not do more than one movie at a time.
He acted and wrote the screenplay for the film Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993).
He has also done playback singing for himself in the successful film Ghulam (1998).
Aamir is known for his efforts to create believable characters, rather than just
playing himself in film after film. He will go to great lengths to give a convincing
portrayal -- including, it is said, drinking heavily in order to play a drunken
scene in Raja Hindustani (1996), even though he doesn't drink in real life.
His memorable characters include:
Raj, the lover (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak)
Amar, the inept schemer (Andaz Apna Apna)
Aakash, the college Lothario (Dil Chahta Hai)
Munna, the street tough (Rangeela)
Bhuvan, the village idealist (Lagaan)
ACP Rathod, a crusading police officer, (Sarfarosh)
Raghu Jaitly, an affable news reporter (Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin)
DJ , the cheerful youth (Rang De Basanti)
Aamir is also known for working on only one film at a time, unusual in the Bollywood
film industry, because he wants to give his best to each film.
Khan rarely attends Indian award functions and says that he does not believe
in the authenticity of the selection and winning process. He made an exception when
he attended the Oscars for the nomination of Lagaan. In 2007, Khan was invited
to have a wax imitation of himself put on display at Madame Tussauds
in London. However, Khan politely declined stating that, "It's not important to
me... people will see my films if they want to. Also, I cannot deal with so many
things, I have bandwidth only for that much. "
