Rani Mukherjee is an actress
who can be credited as the
queen of bollywood, not
only because of her first
name which means ‘the
Queen’ in Hindi and
Bengali but also due to
the kind of image that she
had developed during all
these years in the Indian
film industry.
Rani was born in March 21,
1978 in West Bengal, India.
She is coming from a movie
oriented family, her father
Ram Mukherjee is a retired
director and her mother
is a former playback singer,
her maternal aunt Debashree
Roy was a popular Bengali
actress and her cousin Kajol
is a bollywood superstar.
And another cousin Sharbani
Mukherjee also works in
movies. Though this movie
oriented family background
allowed her easy entrance
bollywood, she never hesitated
to give her hundred percent
efforts to each and every
project she signed in. her
hardworking and trusty nature
made her the favorite of
many directors and co stars.
She comes from a film-clan
family of Bengali origin:
Her father, Ram Mukherjee
is a retired director. Her
mother Krishna used to be
a playback singer, while
her brother Raja Mukherjee
is a film producer. Her
maternal aunt is Debashree
Roy. The popular Bollywood
actress, Kajol, is her second
cousin.
She began her film career
with the Bengali film Biyer
Phool. Her first Hindi film
was Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat
(1996), which did not do
well at the box office.
However, her next two releases
- Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota
Hai (1998) - were India-wide
hits. For the latter she
received her first Filmfare
Award in the Best Supporting
Actress category.
Mukerji was signed on for
a great many movies after
these successes. Unfortunately,
most of them did average
business at the box office.
The commercial and critical
success of Saathiya in 2002
is widely believed to have
revived her career.
Mukerji has been romantically
linked with actors such
as Govinda, Aamir Khan,
Abhishek Bachchan and most
recently, director Aditya
Chopra.All parties have,
however, strongly denied
these rumours.
