Even though an overcast sky brought down the temperature, Delhiites kept waiting for rain on Monday. But, what troubled most commuters on the National Capital Region’s roads was that a small drizzle was reason enough for traffic jams, especially during evening peak hours. On Monday evening, vehicular traffic on all major arterial roads connecting Mehrauli- Gurgaon Road and Gurgaon Expressway moved at a snail’s pace after a mild rain.
In Delhi, although there was no rainfall, several important roads, especially those in south Delhi, witnessed congestion and slow-moving traffic.
In Gurgaon, the most-affected were the roads in DLF Cybercity and Udyog Vihar, and also the service lanes along the Gurgaon Expressway. Traffic movement on the main carriageway, however, remained unaffected.
“I do not understand what happens to the roads when it rains even mildly in Gurgaon. It took me 30 minutes to cover one kilometre from my office in Udyog Vihar and Shankar Chowk on the Gurgaon Expressway. The service lane was totally jammed,” said J.K. Kukreja, an industrialist.
In Delhi, peak hour traffic slowed down at Ring Road, Dhaula Kaun and Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. However, according to Traffic police, no major traffic jam was reported on roads leading towards Gurgaon.
